The trials, however, may be extended until mid-2027, according to officials. In Gujarat, more than 98.5 percent of the required land has been purchased; on the other hand, Maharashtra is making modest but steady progress, with 44 percent of the required land secured, primarily in the Palghar region. When it comes to land acquisition in Mumbai and Thane, there hasn't been much movement. There is no set date for launching the Bullet Train on the full 508-kilometer Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, as officials believe it is difficult to establish a firm timeframe until all land in Maharashtra and Gujarat has been bought. "We're waiting for the Maharashtra land acquisition to be completed, and we're now in talks with the state government," NHSRCL Managing Director Satish Agnihotri said. According to the most recent land acquisition report for India's first Bullet Train project, the NHSRCL has bought over 44% of the land in three Maharashtra districts - Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar. According to sources, a total of 287 hectares in Palghar must be purchased. There are still 116 hectares to be secured. Meanwhile, property in the Mumbai and Thane districts is needed in the amount of 432 hectares, which includes forest, private, and government land. According to NHSRCL authorities, 44% of private land has been bought, 80% of government land has been acquired, and no forest land has been obtained yet. There is now no clarification on land acquisition in Mumbai and Thane, while things are finally moving forward in Palghar following a series of local demonstrations. Meanwhile, the NHSRCL has secured more than 98 percent of the total 352 kilometres of land required for the project in Gujarat. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel paid a visit to the NHSRCL casting yard in Surat on December 26 to seek an update on the project's progress. At the yard, 950-tonne girders are being cast, which will be mounted on the pillars after 15 days. Another batch of 1500-tonne girders will be installed later, resulting in the toughest pillars and rail girders capable of accommodating bullet trains travelling at 350 kilometres per hour. Civil work on a 343-kilometer stretch of road in Gujarat has begun. Gujarat would spend Rs 72,000 crore of the entire anticipated project cost of Rs 1.08 lakh crore. The NHSRCL authorities accepted that the project cost could rise, and this is being worked out with the Japanese partners who are supplying technology and support for the multi-billion dollar project.
