As construction work on the project has commenced, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) expects the first phase of the airport to be completed by the end of 2024. The project will be developed on 2,268 hectares of land, with the actual airport taking up 1,160 hectares. The project is projected to cost approximately 16,700 crores of rupees. The project was recently taken over by the Adani company. For years, the project had struggled with land acquisition, rehabilitation, and relocation due to local opposition. The concessionaire for the Adani company had asked that the whole project be handed over to it before it could begin construction. CIDCO faced a huge challenge in relocating the settlements. Ten villages in the primary airport area had to be relocated, affecting 3,000 families. The PAPs were granted a record 22.5 percent developed land compensation and other incentives. Due to the project's delay and a change in the concessionaire, there were also concerns with environmental and other licenses from the Central and State governments, which necessitated additional permissions. All of these concerns, according to CIDCO, have now been fixed. "CIDCO and NMIAL have put in Herculean efforts to get this project on track," Sanjay Mukherjee, vice-chairman and managing director of CIDCO, said. We are overjoyed that the project, which began in 1997, has now reached its full potential. CIDCO has completed all land acquisition, rehabilitation, and pre development civil works. This is one of the most critical elements in ensuring the project's success.`` He went on to say that NMIAL had received all permissions and had reached financial close. "CIDCO has turned over the site to NMIAL, which has started work on the airport in full force," Mukherjee said.
