Instagram I'd - https://www.instagram.com/d____naik/ Mumbai The ambitious 10-kilometer-long Mumbai Coastal Road Project saw the first breakthrough of India's largest Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) on Monday, with tunnel work for the ambitious 10-kilometer-long Mumbai Coastal Road Project largely finished a year after work began in January 2021. The TBM dubbed Mavla, according to BMC authorities, finished one side of the 2-kilometer-long tunnel between Priyadarshini Park and Marine Drive. From Priyadarshini Park to Marine Drive in Girgaon Chowpatty, it's a 3.45-kilometer-long twin undersea tunnel. The remaining tunnel work will be completed without the use of a boring machine. The BMC acquired TBM parts from China in 2020, and they arrived in India in April 2020. The BMC began work in January 2021 after assembling the boring machine, and now the opposite side between Marine Drive and Priyadarshini Park will be completed. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, speaking via video conference at the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, said the Mawla tunnel project is progressing successfully despite numerous hurdles. He stated that by facing these obstacles, the BMC has proceeded on its arduous path toward realising Mumbaikars' goals. "I'd also like to offer the state government's total support and cooperation in the completion of the project," he added. Aaditya Thackeray, the Guardian Minister of Suburban Mumbai, Aslam Shaikh, the City's Guardian Minister, and Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar were also in attendance. "We are preparing to finish the 1.4 km tunnel on the Priyadarshini Park to Marine Drive stretch," a BMC official from the Coastal Road Department said. "Work on the other side of the tunnel will begin in April 2022, and we want to complete it by December 2022." Because we now know the soil and strata of the area, the time spent on the second side will be shorter." At Girgaum, it will operate at a depth of 25 metres, and at Malabar Hill, it will operate at a depth of 75 metres. Each tunnel will be 12 metres wide, with two lanes that are each 3-3.2 metres wide and one emergency lane. The BMC claims to have completed more over 20% of the work on the Coastal Road Project and has set a July 2023 completion date for the entire project. Meanwhile, work on the $12,700 crore coastline road began in October 2018, and the project has been in the news for environmental reasons ever since. The Bombay high court (HC) placed a hold on the project in July 2019, citing the necessity for environmental permits. The coastal road project was originally slated to run between Nariman Point and Kandivali, with the goal of reducing traffic congestion between north and south Mumbai. However, it is presently being debated whether a coastal road or a sea link should be built beyond Versova to connect to the suburbs. The state has yet to make a decision.
