Hard-pan Gold. Yankee Gold Prospecting Adventures. Showing what the hard-pan looks like. Once you have uncovered it. There was about 18" of gravels covering the Hard-pan when I started. Once I realized I was hitting hard-pan instead of bedrock or clay, I cleaned it off of all the rocks & gravels. What was left is just hard-pan. Which is a compacted layer of gravels from old storms. They become like concrete due to the mixture of clay & gravel. Often the gold will lay just above the hard-pan/false bottom. But because the hard-pan is an old storm layer, there is good flood gold in it as well. That is what you will see in parts 2 & 3. http://yankeegoldprospecting.com/ Increasing the amount of gold you find in every pan is simple & effective. First you have to do test spots to determine where the pay streak is. When the water is low you may have to dam up the creek to create water flow where you need it. As you make a trail for the light sands to wash down stream, the garnets, black sands & gold trail behind. You should make sure that the water level in the pool you are working has good water-flow through it. You may have to move rocks below the area you are prospecting so that the water level will drop to where you need it. You could be in an area that the water may have yo much drop. That might wash gold down stream a bit. You can change that by damning up the back of the pool to slow the water down.
