You Look Okay To Me's video: What Is Medical Gaslighting - My Thoughts

This week we spoke a lot about “Medical Gaslighting.” I saw this term pop up on Instagram a few months ago. Not sure who came up with it. Not sure if it’s an official term. Upon reading it I felt seen. Personally, I find language to be very powerful. When there’s a word or a term that describes you experience, it can be really comforting. Part of the reason why I joined Instagram in the first place was to feel less alone. Not being believed is really isolating. Finding out that thousands of other people went through the same thing is heartbreaking but comforting on a personal level. Usual disclaimer. This is not to bash doctors. I owe my life to some of the incredible doctors and nurses that work so hard. Interestingly, to meet them, I had to go through really awful experiences with people who didn’t listen to me. To this day, I have trouble believing in myself. My aim in any medical investigation with healthcare practitioners is to work as a team. If I feel like you’re not working in my best interest, I need to move elsewhere. That’s no less than we deserve. Anyway, I get into it in this video. Make sure you check it out.
