One primary reason is the US joining in on the war later than most in 1917. "The Great War" seems to have been overtaken in the national consciousness by the Great Depression and World War II. Though the US role in WWI remains to this day to be controversial, it can't be denied that it made a huge impact in history for the entire world. World War 1 remains one of the, if not the most, bloody war in history. Zero Bunker Podcast On Sound Cloud ➡ https://goo.gl/cs2VCa In today's Podcast, G wanted to discuss WWI, particularly the introduction of "Shell Shock" which in modern terms is now known as Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD). PTSD is a relatively new diagnosis, and prior to the acceptance of PTSD, there was a huge misunderstanding of the mindset that plagues many Military Veterans. When you dig into Military History, you will find that even as early as WWI there were accounts of what we now consider PTSD, but then refereed to as "Shell Shock". Some of these accounts of Shell Shock describe terrified Soldiers on and off the battlefield literally frozen in fear. Some of those experiencing shell shock tried abandoning their posts, refusing orders from commanders, and even committing suicide. In modern times we know that PTSD is a series disease that plagues a huge percentage of Military Service members and we have Programs, Professionals, and many other resources to help. In WWI and even well after, there was little to no true "help" or treatment for Active Military and Veterans.
