@Should I Buy New Clubs? - Documenting A High Handicapper's Road to Improvement
Trying out a new set of clubs and heavily considering buying some new stuff, lemme know what you think! Since I have returned I have pivoted to attempting to use a single plane golf swing. I use the high visibility golf balls on many holes that have a lot of trees or poorly kept rough, otherwise I use balls I find on this course just in case I lose some on the holes I have no problem finding balls on. The high visibility balls are also super low compression golf balls, which I believe has helped me control shot shape better, as historically I have a low-medium swing speed and suffer from a lot of unwanted spin, typically in the slice direction. My issue right now is consistency in all areas, and I believe the best way to address this is simply play more. My shortgame has a lot of inconsistency too, but typically I find myself to be a terrible green-reader and have very poor control over line on puts, but have gotten considerably better at judging pace on these greens, which seem to differ wildly from hole to hole in speed and quality. All my clubs are hand-me-downs or clubs I obtained for free when I worked at Glenmaura National Golf Course my members who wanted to dispose of clubs in favor of new ones. My Driver is the Cleveland Hibore driver which I believe is from at least 2006 or earlier. My irons are SMT 303CB2 that were made by an avid golf smith for my uncle, who is a scratch golfer and about 4 inches taller than me. My putter is the Ping G5i Ally from 2006. All shafts are stiff as it was what my Uncle uses, but I am unsure what that means for the golf swing or if its appropriate for me. All I know is when I hit my Dad's driver with a regular flex shaft, I slice the ball profusely, even with the single plane swing.
