Filmed on 3/12/15 at Hamilton Station Over the years I have always had fun chasing Amtrak's business/maintenance fleet. I first learned about what would later become the 10005 at National Train Day in 2012. Now it is almost three years later, but I finally got the chance to go see the car for myself. This test extra was inspecting the NEC from Boston, MA to Washington D.C. The day before the train ran from D.C. to Boston. The consist contains a new ACS-64 ( ) in the lead, two Amfleet I cafe cars, the new 10005 Catenary Measurement car, and the new 10004 American View Theater Car. The 10005 is an ex-Metroliner car that has taken over the catenary inspection duties from the 10002 Corridor Clipper, which is why the Corridor Clipper no longer has its pantograph on the roof. Notice how the 10005 makes no actual contact with the wires, but rather uses high-tech electronics and lasers to scan the wires.
