acmkyle's video: House At Pooh Corner cover by Alex Kyle

@"House At Pooh Corner" (cover by Alex Kyle)
Time for a bit of nostalgia. Through this whole “lock-down” business, I’ve spoken to quite a few people who have used it as a good excuse to clean out cupboards, organize photos and basically try to de-clutter their lives. I’ve been doing it too. I’ve come across lots of old photos, old books, old childhood toys and my old bear. My bear was given to me by my Grandfather on the day I was born. He’d sailed from Scotland to see our family and brought it with him. I only saw him one more time; in Scotland when I was four. Combine that memory with old photos from my Teacher’s College days and that’s where this song comes from. We used to sit in a corridor waiting for tutorials to begin. Being a music department, somebody inevitably had a guitar and a sing-along would break out. Being music students basically everyone could pick a harmony. It was magic! I really wish I could have recorded some of those impromptu moments. This song came up one day. I’d never heard of it. The chords and harmonies we sang were not as the original - but I kind of like them better (hence why my chords and harmonies aren’t quite like the Kenny Loggins one). I’m also an unashamed Winnie-the-Pooh fan. We would have a two hour lunch at the pub, and return to a “Children’s Literature” class rather sloshed. That’s probably why I find so many of these kids books hilarious; I’m still seeing them through beer goggles! (So when I say “Winnie-the-Pooh”, I’m talking about the original books. If anyone says the words “cartoon” or “Disney”, I will unleash the hounds! Even though it introduced a whole new generation to the stories, the House of Mouse almost completely demolished the spirit and soul of these wonderful books. If you haven’t read the A.A. Milne books - do so. They’re great.) If you’re feeling a wee bit nostalgic, this song is for you. It’s also for Sarah, from my old days at Burwood Teacher’s College. She introduced me to this song and even made me a home-stitched Pooh Bear of my very own. Spoilt rotten! :-)
