I just got back from a Swiss Miss girl look-a-like contest & thought I'd play a little :) This song goes by 3 names: In the Pines, Where Did You Sleep Last Night, & traditionally- Black Girl. It's an old old folk song dating back to the late 1800's & the original lyrics were "Black girl, black girl, don't you lie to me..." etc. The verses have as many variations as there are performers that have done this song. It was recorded by Leadbelly in 1944 under the title Where Did You Sleep Last Night- which is the version that Nirvana covered & also the same lyrics that I've chosen to use here... but I like the other title better :)
