akiTONE's video: Nettou Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special - Vs Geese

@Nettou Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special - Vs. Geese
First and foremost: One thing Nettou does that I am absolutely happy about, is that you don't need an obscene amount of points to fight Geese. Yes, you absolutely should earn your beatings from the Boss of Southtown properly. Yet, I really do like Geese as a character. He's abhorrent and a horrible human being, save for the "MAD CHARISMA" it takes to rock a Rolex during a fight, as well as his amazing theme songs. Basically, he's a great villain, and I genuinely enjoy fighting against him. RBS is absolutely my favorite Fatal Fury, so it makes me kinda sad that I can't get a visit from my favorite boss character when I decide to pop the game in on an off-day. Then again, after all the quarters spent on trying to waste him, "DYING FOREVER" probably isn't something I want to do when I'm bummed. (Kicking him off a tower or out of my nightmares is EXTREMELY cathartic though.) ... that said, let's continue on about Nettou RBS! In the last videos, I gushed about how cool it was that this game has the RBS Line system for the most part, as well as the corner dizzies. So what about the rest of the game? As I spent more time getting used to how the game handles, I found myself surprised just how much Takara managed to keep intact with each character too. Naturally, because of the screen dimensions and new character scales, it's not a 1:1 conversion. Still, you'll find a lot of stuff still works: I managed to pull off Terry's Crouching B to Rising Tackle BnB from the Real Bouts, his Reach into S. Burn Knuckle is there, the Power Dunk is still pretty dangerous on wakeup, and you'll even see Terry's excellent B (L. Kick) pokes near the end of the round. Mind, this is just from a single run through game, and with only 1 character to boot. But it says a lot when you're able to take what already know and apply it to what is technically a port. As a port is technically supposed to be the same game, if not most of the same game, adapted to a different hardware, then the fact that I was able to jump in as easily as I did is a testament to just how solid Takara's efforts were. Futhermore, it's a handheld port, and it's a given that you can't fit an arcade title of this caliber in a GameBoy cartridge. So I find Nettou RBS to be rather amazing to have adapted what is one of the Neo Geo's best fighting games as well as it has. (Honestly, I shouldn't be this surprised considering this is possibly the same group that managed to make Toushinden play at a somewhat acceptable speed on the GameBoy, which is another wonder of modern science.)
