akiTONE's video: Nettou Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special - Vs Joe

@Nettou Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special - Vs. Joe
Despite how much I like Fatal Fury, I never checked out Takara's port of RBS for the GameBoy! Unbelieveabo! The game was surprisingly fun enough, I decided to vidcap some of my initial run for you guys! Takara is no stranger to fighters, after all, they've done ports for several of SNK's fighters, such as Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, and of course, Fatal Fury. Takara's Nettou series in particular adapted several fighters to handhelds, such as Nettou KoF, Nettou Real Bout, and even Nettou Toushinden! (That last one in particular is a fun case, because Nettoushinden actually handles rather well compared to its console counterparts!) But back to Nettou RBS: one of the first things you'll notice is that like most conversions at the time, something gets lost. Up on the chopping block are the following: -Bash, Cheng, Chongshu, Bob, Tung, Hon-Fu. and Sokaku are no longer playable. -Andy, Joe, Kim, and Yamazaki don't get their own themes. (The Thai bassline will be sorely missed.) -The game only features the Sound Beach, Japanese Castle, Chinese Mountain, Billy's Live Stage, Krauser's Castle, and Geese Tower stages. Korea, Hong Kong, and Thailand are gone. Joe and Kim get relocated to China, Yamazaki to Billy's stage. Despite that, the game actually retains its signature Line system, and even the corner stun system managed to get translated! (The numbers at the button corners reflect the HP of the sides of the stages. As in RBS, when these empty, the opponent gets an instant dizzy.) A lot of the characters translate decently well too. I was surprised to find a good number of my Terry tactics were still useable. I know it's been said before that the GameBoy is not the first place that you'd look for a fighter, but Takara's Nettou games handle surprisingly well. RBS is no exception, and considering what a robust game RBS is, it's quite the feat that Takara managed to port this to the GameBoy. (Btw, the game's also Super GameBoy compatible!)
