RIP Battle of Z and DBZ: The Legend. Kakarot's in-games battles, especially the bosses, are super fun, especially once you better understand the basics of the battle engine. Lucky me: I also get to showcase Assists, what a "Break" looks like on a boss, and a Z-Combo. I'm still pretty early on, but I super hope the game throws the tutorial that talks about the melee combo finishers at you. For the folks who didn't go through the tutorials available in the system menu: you can actually hit Cross, Triangle, and Square to respectively perform a quick, meaty rush with no blowback; a kiai burst that recovers ki with a slight blowback; and a charged ki blast. The Triangle and Cross finishers in particular are super handy for maintaining ki/meter during your offensive, or maintaining a certain distance from the enemy. Cross' quick meaty is great for comboing up close, while Circle will blow them backward quite a distance away for a super with longer startup. Triangle is the middle ground between the two, in terms of both blowback distance and stagger time. In that vein, you can also Bursts almost like you could in an ArcSys fighter to create openings with a high priority hit that you can potentially combo into. I've found you can even use them to knock bosses out of a Super Move while they're charging it. The only examples seem to be their guard breaks, as well as the Super Moves that reset the camera and the player's position and actions. Assists are also a HUGE blast to use, as they activate decently quick, and eventually allow you to use a Z-Combo, itself an UNBLOCKABLE Tag-Hyper Combo cutscene attack that does massive damage and activates the second you hit L1+R1. As many have already found out, Krillin's assist is stupidly OP, lol. It basically locks down the enemy for a stupidly long amount of time, with the enemy fixed in place and unable to be blown away so you can really pile on the damage. Man, this game is a blast.
