An arms race – what did Republican President Dwight D Eisenhower 5 star supreme commander of the Armed Forces - that it takes away our ability to fund the productive economy. Instead of research on better agricultural techniques, or more efficient use of energy, or having music and art classes and woodworking classes in our public schools. Not only do we deprive our own citizenry – with 15% of the US population living in poverty while our military overage would wipe out poverty if we simply reduced our budget to say twice as much as China’s or 5 times as much as Russias. We also do this to our allied countries who also hike spending to maintain our levels of spending proportionately, and our rivals. Now in the past, the US has had amicable and peaceful and productive relationships with every single country we currently have rivalries, and that can be shown by our relationship with Germany and Japan which are considered our partners now. For every teacher or scientist we cannot hire because of our military spending, we also deny that to our fellow human beings in our allied and adversary countries. And in order for this to be effective – this theft of our childrens future by a bloated inefficient industry that is entirely dependent and parasitic on the real productive economy, we create a quasi religious veneration of people who work as soldiers. The Korean War and every war we have been in since, has been immoral, so immoral we did not even have the stomach to declare war. The Congress has cravenly passed the buck. So when we celebrate memorial day and Veterans Day, should we not mourn the death of our democracy, when we do not follow our own constitution which vests the war power in Congress?
