Alina Dyatlova's video: Quebec Seeks to Amend the Canadian Constitution To Be a French Only Province: Bill 96

Bill 96, called "An Act Respecting French, the Official and Common Language of Quebec," was tabled on May 13, 2021 in the National Assembly by Simon Jolin-Barrette, the province's minister responsible for languages. This is a wide-ranging bill that, if adopted, would beef up the province's language laws, affecting the education, immigration, court systems as well as workplaces. Bill seeks to add two clauses to the Canadian Constitution that would recognize Quebec as a nation and French as its only official and common language. On May 18, 2021 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Quebec can unilaterally modify part of the Canadian Constitution that applies to them while ensuring the other parts of the constitution are respected.
