আগুন লাগার প্রায় ২১ ঘণ্টা পর গাজীপুরের নতুনবাজারে তৈরি পোশাক কারখানা, ডিগনিটির আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে এসেছে। রোববার দুপুরে ওই পোশাক কারখানায় আগুন লাগে। তবে অগ্নিকান্ডের ঘটনায় হতাহতের কোনো খবর পাওয়া যায়নি। প্রায় একুশ ঘন্টা অক্লান্ত চেষ্টার পর অবশেষে দমকলবাহিনী নিয়ন্ত্রনে এনেছে গাজীপুরের ডিগনিটি নামক পোশাক কারখানার আগুন। ততক্ষণে ভবনের সবকিছু পুড়ে-গলে গেছে। ভোর চারটার দিকে বিকট শব্দে বিস্ফোরণ ঘটিয়ে এভাবেই ধসে পড়ে চায়নার মালিকানাধীন আটতলা কারখানাটি। মুহুর্তেই কারখানাটি পরিনত হয় ধ্বংসস্তুপে। আতংক ছড়িয়ে পড়ে আশপাশের এলাকায়, উদ্ধারকর্মীদেরও মধ্যেও। বিশাল আয়তনের কারখানাটি লোহা আর টিন দিয়ে তৈরি। তাই ফায়ারসার্ভিসের ১৪টি ইউনিট দিনরাত কাজ করলেও কারখানাটি ধসের পর জানায় তাদের অক্ষমতার কথা। কারখানার অগ্নিকাণ্ডের এ ঘটনা তদন্তে পাঁচ সদস্যের কমিটি করে পাঁচ দিনের মধ্যে প্রতিবেদন দিতে বলেছে জেলা প্রশাসন। Our Correspondent, Gazipur A devastating fire ripped through five floors of a ready-made garment factory, Dignity Textiles Mills Ltd, at Sreepur upazila in Gazipur yesterday. The seven-storey Dignity Textile Mills at Betjur area under Sreepur municipality, which is on fire, has been declared "dangerous".Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Brigadier General Ali Ahmad Khan, psc, made the announcement at 10:20pm Sunday. Firefighting efforts has been stopped after the firefighters failed to bring the fire under control.Ali Ahmad also directed locals to stay at safe distance from the fire-caught building.The mill caught fire at the second floor of the seven-storey Dignity Textile Mills around 1:45pm .Till filing the report, 12 units of fire service were working to extinguish the fire.Administrative manager Nazmunnahar Kemu said it was lunch break when the fire broke out in the third floor.The fire was sensed when the smoke began to pour through the window of the warehouse in the south of the third floor.
