Unfortunately, if you're in a relationship with a narcissist or someone who displays narcissistic tendencies, it's a recipe for disaster. You need to open your eyes because that other person will probably never be what you need or want in a partner or somebody you should invest more time and energy in. Identifying a narcissist isn't as easy as it sounds. Sometimes, the characteristics show themselves over time, so when you first get to know someone, you might think that they're funny, cute, or they think highly of themselves. But as the relationship develops, their narcissistic behavior may affect your ego and self-esteem. If you feel like you're in a relationship with a narcissist, I highly recommend therapy. This will help to undo the damage from being in a relationship with a narcissist for an extended period. Being around a narcissist is difficult because, a lot of times, their behavior in the way that they feel about themselves impacts you. It will also impact how they treat you as well. I want to cover some of the signs of a narcissist as well as warning the signs that you may be in a relationship with a narcissist. If you are, you need to make some hard decisions. Love bombing. At the beginning of the relationship, everything is incredible. But then it stops because the focus needs to be on them, and it will remain on them. Narcissists are notorious for wanting and eating admiration. They also need reassurance and constant attention. Grandiosity. Narcissists have an inflated sense of self-importance and think that their sh^t doesn't stink. They think they're better than they are and deserve adoration even though they haven't done anything to deserve it. Manipulation and control. Narcissists are passive-aggressive and manipulate people to do things. They are dangerous because they will try to control your emotions and then make you think you're crazy. They will try to manipulate and control the conversation. Entitlement. They feel entitled without having to work for it or do what they should do to get it. Jealousy. Narcissists are envious, jealous, and talk negatively about other people. Arrogance. Narcissists have a shield as a defense mechanism because they are wildly insecure. With that, they're arrogant and will put others down to lift themselves. They are not confident and feel good about themselves, so they need to put others down. They tried to make themselves seem better or more important than other people. Isolation and emotional abuse. Narcissists try to prevent you from hanging out with your friends or family. This is a warning sign that they're trying to control you. Also, narcissists are emotionally controlling and abusive. This builds gradually over time, and sometimes you don't realize how bad it becomes. They tried to convince you that you only need them. If you discover you're in a relationship with a narcissist, you need to break up and move on. It may be the hardest thing to do, but it will change the rest of your life. If you're with the wrong person, it will mess your life up. If you're with somebody who insults or belittles you, get away from them. If you always have to explain things, give facts, and present receipts so they don't flip the script, this is a sign that they don't fight fairly. They're hitting below the belt. You deserve to be happy and healthy and cannot be collateral damage in somebody else's life.
