A recent study demonstrated that a big, bold beard can make you look 8 to 10 years older. With that, I want to talk about mistakes that make men look older than you should, even though beards can make you look older in and of themselves. I want to make you look as young as possible because research shows that 10-day stubble is what women find most attractive. Here's how NOT to look older with a beard: Edge it. If you're not edging it and letting it grow any way it wants, it will grow high on the cheeks and down low. You need to make sure your beard is not climbing up your face or down your neck (reciprocally, don't carve it too high). Check out the video where I demonstrate how and where to shave. Keep it trimmed. Don't have a huge, big, wide beard. Your beard should not be wild, so keep it trimmed. Maintain it. A 10-day stubble, which is 5 mm, is the most attractive facial hairstyle. Check out my demonstration in the video on how to do it. Reduce patches. One problem with a short beard like the 10-day stubble is that if it's patchy, it will accentuate it. So, if you have patches, let it grow slightly longer and train your beard to lay over the patchy areas. Reduce or eliminate grays. Your beard won't look as thick as it used to if you have gray. Facial hair will typically gray quicker than other hair, which is genetic. Facial hair also grows twice as fast as the hair on your head, so the life cycle is shorter. The more gray you have in your beard, the older you'll look. If you take that beard shorter, it will look better and more youthful. Take it to the next level by covering some or all of the gray. Leave some grays to make it look a lot more natural. Check out the video where I show you how to dye your beard properly. Make sure you choose a shade a bit lighter as opposed to darker. Moisturize and condition. Using a moisturizer, you want to ensure the skin underneath your beard is soft and healthy. Also, the skin under your beard gets a bit dry, and when it gets dry, it gets flaky. It's not good to see chin flakes or dandruff on your shirt if you're wearing dark colors or black. Also, get in the habit of conditioning your beard when you condition your hair in the shower.
