While enjoying the wine, one of my buddies asked me if I had just worked out because my arms looked so vascular. It was actually because of the red wine, which is a vasodilator. When I was bodybuilding, one hack I used to get more veiny before competition was to drink a little bit of red wine. Red wine increases nitric oxide production, relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow. This got me thinking about Big Al and the best foods that increase blood flow via nitric oxide production. First things first! Stop smoking. It's one of the worst things you can do regarding blood flow. It will constrict rather than dilate. So, the amount of blood that flows to Big Al will not be optimal. Next, start exercising. When you exercise, your blood pumps, facilitating circulation (aka increased blood flow). Last, increase micronutrients. A multivitamin will give you the micronutrients your body needs. I use Ritual Essential Daily for Men. Even if you're eating a healthy diet, getting all the micronutrients you need is often difficult, so a multivitamin is a nutritional insurance plan. Also, Ritual's pre-, pro-, and post-biotics are critical for good gut bacteria. Here are the blood flow basics, focusing on foods that promote and propel blood flow. Big Al will love you for it. L-arginine and L-citrulline. These two micronutrients are amazing for vasodilation. They are both incredible amino acids that increase the production of nitric oxide, which promotes blood vessel relaxation. Increasing blood flow will make Big Al harder and bigger. Foods that contain L-arginine include garlic, beef, eggs, shrimp, crab, and lobster. Watermelon, cucumbers, pumpkin, and winter & summer squashes contain L-citrulline. Nitrates. Nitrates are amazing for vasodilation and increasing nitric oxide production. Foods that contain this include beets, radishes, and pomegranates. Vitamin C. Vitamin C is one of the best antioxidants, protecting blood vessels and keeping them elastic. Consume citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and limes. Lycopene. You can get this nutrient in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, kale, and dark green vegetables. Flavonoids. Dark chocolate and red wine increase blood flow but consume both in moderation.
