近畿北部地方にとっては鉄道近代化の象徴でもあった183系特急電車。 1986年11月、国鉄最後のプロジェクト－城崎電化にあわせて東北、北陸、南紀、九州から掻き集められた485系で運行を開始。1991年、電化される七尾線乗り入れ車両に交流機器を譲り、183系に形式変更がなされた福知山の電車特急群は、26年間にわたりこの地の輸送を支えてきました。 しかし1970年代に製造されて早や40年。老朽化、車内設備の陳腐化を隠すことは出来ず、287系、381系に後事を託し、2013年3月を以って183系はこの地を去ることとなりました。 The 183 series train is a express train that connected north Kinki from Kyoto with Osaka. Japanese National Railways introduced this train in the 1970's. These trainsets were gradually phased out from spring 2011 in favor of the new 287 series, and completely removed from regular scheduled services by the start of the revised timetable on 16 March 2013.
