@40 in 1: High Speed Diesel+Electric Trains Unleashing Aggression in the Howrah-Barddhaman Chord.!!
Finally after a long delay, I was able to fulfill a much awaited wish to do a whole day railfanning on the Howrah-Barddhaman Chord Line. Although I regret it delaying for over 7 years, but then when I got the moment to visit Kolkata I decided to seize the moment. As I was really looking forward towards this moment so on an cold chilly March morning I got up early to board the early morning Howrah-Masagram local to capture the early morning sizzling 130 km/hr action of 12019 Howrah-Ranchi Shatabdi Express.I was very excited to see how my first outing on the HBC chord unfolds, but unfortunately as my Masagram bound local got delayed by over 15 minutes, but thankfully as per my friend Pramit Das's advise we got down at Dankuni Junction and luckily we were able to get the 12019 Howrah-Ranchi Shatabdi speeding past us at full on 130 km/hr speed with the power of HWH WAP-7 at it's helm. We were really lucky to capture the speeding Shatabdi Express at 130 km/hr as it had just braked at the station outer as it was chasing our Masagram Local by short gap. After capturing the sizzling speed show of the Ranchi Shatabdi Express , we took the Howrah-Barddhaman Local to head towards our next spot Balarambati. At Balarambati , we were joined by my railfan friend Arnab Choudhary and Koushik Dutta and we kick started our short Railfanning stint with an amazing shrill honking show by the 12308 Jodhpur-Howrah Express and we carried on our railfanning expedition till the morning Rajdhani gang where the Kolkata bound 12314 Sealdah Rajdhani and 12302 Howrah Rajdhani belted past the station area at full throttle. In between this we were able to relish the speed blitz of Poorva Express, Anand Vihar-Howrah Bi-weekly Superfast Express, Howrah Duronto Express to name a few. At Balarambati, for the first time I was able to cherish a speedy skip of local train as the Barddhaman-Howrah fast local swiftly crossed the station area while being chased by Coalfield Express. After this we again boarded the Barddhaman bound local train to head towards my main spot for RF.. Jhapandanga. During this journey I was joined by my railfan brother Ankit Sharma as me, Ankit, Arnab and Pramit headed towards Jhapandanga to capture the afternoon speedy actions. Our railfanning commenced with the 110 km/hr action of 12337 Shantiniketan Express making it's presence felt on the reverse line as it headed towards it's destination Bolpur Shantiniketan. At Jhapandanga our main center of attraction was the amazing cat and mouse chase..which was in the order. Patna Jan Shatabdi Express followed by New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express which was being followed by Anand Vihar-Howrah Yuva Express. First the 12024 Patna-Howrah Jan Shatabdi turned up which put up an amazing honking spectacle as it belted past Jhapandanga at 110 km/hr with HWH WAP-7 . This was later followed by ferocious 130 km/hr speed show by the HWH WAP-7 led 12042 New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Shatabdi Express which made an amazing crossing with the HWH WDP-4D led 12513 Secunderabad-Guwahati Express. Later on came the showdown and this was perhaps my first and the last capture of the Anand Vihar-Howrah Yuva Express. HWH WAP-7 led 12250 Anand Vihar-Howrah Yuva Express like a afternoon storm, belted past Jhapandanga station at flat 130 km/hr. It was a rare sight seeing the Yuva Express on the reverse line as it is generally provided the mainline where it is restricted at 110 km/hr speed. Luckily my first capture of the 12250 Howrah Yuva Express came out to be at 130 km/hr.! At Jhapandanga, we also witnessed the 110 km/hr speed demons in action led by WAP-7, WAP-5, WAP-4 and even WDM-3A. After a brief session we headed towards Chandanpur station where we were joined by railfan friends Sourav Dutta, Pritam Das, Shubham Kabi, Abhijay Chakraborthy. At Chandanpur, we enjoyed a short railfanning stint there as we cherished the back to back speed shows of the 12023 Howrah-Patna Jan Shatabdi Express and 12041 Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Shatabdi Express as they ripped past the station at their respective MPS speeds. Later on we shifted our base to Madhusudanpur where we were joined by Aditya Kaul and we enjoyed the evening high speed actions that started with the 12337 Shantiniketan Express followed by Poorva Express and the speeding Rajdhani gang and the night sizzler: Sealdah Duronto Express. Finally as I was returning back to Howrah station, I decided to deboard at Dankuni Jn to witness the returning 12020 Ranchi-Howrah Shatabdi Express. It was a gamble which paid off..as I was enthralled by the night scorcher as it darted past us and the Dankuni station at flat 130 km/hr. It was really an awesome day and much more amazing was the fact that I kick started my day with the 130 km/hr action of 12019 Howrah-Ranchi Shatabdi Express at Dankuni station and coincidentally ended at Dankuni itself with the 130 km/hr action of 12020 Ranchi-Howrah Shatabdi Express.!!
