On a fine night Railfanning expedition to Phaphund station on the heavily congested Delhi-Kanpur stretch of North Central Railways, me along with Aditya Kaushal and Tarun Tyagi got to relish a rare sight when one of the premier trains of NCR zone was send to the sidings in order to make way for the two biggies of Allahabad division of the North Central Railways. That day the 12404 Jaipur-Allahabad Express was running on a diverted route so the BGKT WDP-4D led 12404 Jaipur-Allahabad Express was put on the loop at Phaphund station so as to make way for the two big guns of NCR ie. first the 12418 Prayagraj Express and secondly the 12276 Allahabad Humsafar Express. Just as the 12404 JP-ALD Express completed it's looping process, we were able to see a beam of yellow just on the south end of the station area... The beam was of the 12418 Prayagraj Express which had eventually slowed down at the station outer as it was trailing the 12404 Jaipur-Allahabad Express. As soon as the Prayagraj Express got clear green signal, the offlink white beast ie. ET WAP-7 started accelerating like crazy and just as it reached to our spot it had attained almost 100 km/hr speed and in no time the 24 coacher Prayagraj Express belted past Phaphund station and the looped Allahabad-Jaipur Express at over 100 km/hr speed. The acceleration put up the white beast was phenomenal as it was able to attain 100+ speed in just 1.5 kms from 30-45 km/hr speed. Just as the legendary Prayagraj Express made it's way towards Kanpur, in such a short span of time, the controller again made signal on the mainline and this was for the 130 km/hr Cheetah who was hot on the heals of Prayagraj Express..it was the latest sensation..the 12276 Allahabad Humsafar Express with newly equipped Sleeper coaches. GZB WAP-7 led 12276 Allahabad Humsafar Express like a trace of bullet completely shatters past the Phaphund station at 130 km/hr and at the same time it delivers the sidelined 12404 Jaipur-Allahabad Express it's second straight humiliation........... Wait my friends...the story is still not finish as a surprise is yet to be unfolded...just as the two thunders swept past Phaphund station one after another..the looped 12404 Jaipur-Allahabad Express was finally given the starter to resume it's journey. Just as the JP-ALD Express was clearing the loop and exchanging pleasantries with the looped 14217 Unchahar Express on the other side..in came another thunderous moment..and this was the 12273 Howrah Duronto Express which was in pursuit of overtaking the 14217 Unchahar Express which was looped on the Delhi bound line. Charging from the Kanpur side was the predator....HWH WAP-7 led 12273 Howrah Duronto Express first greets the 12404 Jaipur-Allahabad Express as it majestically cuts the curve and enters towards Phaphund station area and in no time the white beast led HWH Duronto bolted past the sidelined 14217 Unchahar Express at flat 120 km/hr speed.! Cherish the enigmatic track sounds that were treat to my ears as the 18 coacher Howrah Duronto gushed past the points in no time.!
