In this episode of If We Were Honest Jason Bosch will be joined by three guests discussing the monopoly of thought within the professional class and the limitations of working for government, corporations, nonprofits and other large Institutions which inherently have political and economic interests and goals. Guests include: JEFF SCHMIDT is the author of 'Disciplined Minds: A Critical Look at Salaried Professionals and the Soul-battering System That Shapes Their Lives'. He was formerly an editor at Physics Today magazine for 19 years, until he was fired for writing this provocative book. He has a PhD in physics from the University of California, Irvine, and has taught in the United States, Central America and Africa. https://disciplinedminds.tripod.com/ CHERI HONKALA is the foremost homeless and anti-poverty organizer in the U.S. over the past 30+ years. She has led housing takeovers of HUD properties, taken over vacated churches for homeless housing and established many homeless encampments over the years. She has led marches, sit-ins, reality tours and mutual aid programs. Here work has gotten her arrested more than 200 times! Cheri co-founded the Kensington Welfare Rights Union and founded the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign with a focus on building a movement to fight poverty that is led by the poor. She has been named Ms. Magazine's Woman of the Year, was featured in Pulitzer Prize author David Zuccino's book, The Myth of the Welfare Queen and has had several documentaries made about her work. In 2011 she became the first woman to run for Sheriff of Philadelphia and the first Sheriff candidate to run on a zero-evictions platform. In 2012, Cheri was the Green Party Vice-Presidential candidate for the United States of America along with Dr. Jill Stein for President. Today Cheri continues her work by leading the "Poor People's Army" focused on continuing her life's work. Cheri will be speaking on the role of nonprofit professionals and foundation funded organizations in suppressing and preventing structural change. FRANCIS D. NEWMAN is a physicist and Professor Emeritus University of Colorado Department of Radiation Oncology. Co-Director of the Center for Computational and Mathematical Biology (CCMB). He is currently researching neural networks and artificial intelligence in medical diagnosis.
