@Missouri turkey hunting: calling deer instead of turkeys???

On May 9, 2020, instead of calling in a gobbler, I called in six curious deer. We have noticed this happens to a lot when hunting turkeys, both in the fall and in the spring. When we scratch around in the leaves and make a few calls, often deer show up within minutes. In the case of scratching, we figure they think the turkeys are turning up acorns and they want in on the action. In the case of calling, we assume the deer think wherever turkey are, that must be a safe area. Just theories - if you have any better ideas, please let us know.
