Shot with my Canon G7X Mk II, GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition and iPhone X On Koh Tao and decided to skip going to the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan so I could enrol on a 3-day PADI certified Open Water Scuba Diving Course. However, I had to stop after the first dive at sea. If you have ever been down to the bottom of the deep end of a swimming pool, you will know that pressure builds up in your ears. Simply swallowing, or moving your jaw about usually corrects (equalises) the pressure enabling you to descend further. When learning to Scuba Dive, the instructors teach you to pinch your nose and attempt to blow out of it (gently) which should equalise the air spaces. Blowing gently didn't work for me very well so I blew hard which worked and I was able to descend to 12 metres for my first of four dives. However, when I reached the surface and got onto the boat, I quickly realised that something was wrong with my ears. It felt as though there were air bubbles in my ears which I couldn't get rid of. I notified the instructor who advised that I attempt the second dive but refrain from pushing it too hard. On the second dive, I could only descend to three meters below sea level as the pain became intense. I was advised to cancel the dive and seek medical attention that day to be on the safe side. I looked up ear injuries from diving that day and the clinic I visited that night confirmed my suspicion of Middle-Ear Barotrauma (https://scubadiverlife.com/ear-barotrauma-causes-symptoms-prevention/) through a combination of equalising too forcefully and a pre-existing blockage somewhere in my Eustachian tubes. I was pretty disappointed, although I got a partial refund for the course, I have always wanted to Scuba Dive and Koh Tao is one of the best places in the world to do this. I didn't film anything until I got to Koh Phangan where I spent a few days enjoying the local culture, seeing the scenery and vlogged a day of travelling round on my hired scooter.
