Set in the after-life, Au-delà considers what it must be like to be wake up and find yourself dead. To realise that life, choice and opportunity have been taken away from you, and that you now have to accept that how you behaved yesterday is how you will be remembered. There are no more opportunities to 'be better, do better -tomorrow'. In a move away from his recent work with baroque music, perhaps surprisingly, Koen Augustijnen accompanies his gaze towards 'life after life' with the music of the legendary jazz musician Keith Jarrett. Augustijnen says: 'In much of Jarrett's work you find something almost transcendental and metaphysical. It travels easily from being small and tender to being huge, abstract and powerful, from offering consolation to being quite challenging. It seemed a perfect fit for a piece that deals with what is real, surreal and unreal all at the same time.' The performance ends with a composition by his father Walter Augustijnen, who passed away recently. Augustijnen is working with a cast of mature dancers -- Florence Augendre, Claudio Girard, Fatou Traoré and Gil Ho Yang -- and the dramaturge Lou Cope to embark on this serene journey towards Au-delà.
