balsamstreet's video: Bushpilot Adventure Tours Flying around Mount Waddington glaciers and lakes

From 1985 to 1988 I operated sight seeing flights from Campbell River BC to the Mount Waddington area, and adjacent areas. I pioneered the concept of these flights and they were a big hit. This video is about 4 flights. The first flight was in a Beaver, with 4 guys from Montreal who were friends. Each year they would go on some kind of adventure somewhere in the world, and one year they picked one of my tours. It was one of the shorter tours, from Campbell River to Waddington, and then to Stafford Lake. We were joined by a lady passenger. To promote my tours, I offered some free seats to a charity raffle. The lady won a seat on this flight. One of the guys had a video camera, which was not a common item to have back then. We did two trips one two days. I was interested in what he was shooting, and I could see that video could be used to promote my trips. The next day I had a series of flights booked which were from Campbell River, to Bute Inlet, and then on to Chilco Lake. I invited him to come along and shoot some footage. We flew in an Otter on that trip. The third trip was not part of my adventure tour series. It was organized by a company which offered river raft tours down the Chilco River. They did about 8 trips per year, and I was the sole pilot on these trips for 3 years. During that period, I was the Campbell River Pilot with the most experience flying around the Mount Waddington area. It was a great time of my life. While beautifully scenic, flying around those mountains can be dangerous, with unseen downdrafts. On several occasions, I was unpleasantly surprised. But after a while I got so I could almost see the wind and currents.
