@New ICC World Test Championship Rules Explained - Test Cricket in Next Level
New ICC World Test Championship Rules Explained! Now Test Cricket in Next Level. What is ICC World Test Championship? In this t20 cricket era, test cricket was losing its popularity dramatically. So, it was a must needed initiative from ICC to take test cricket in next level and ICC introduce the “Test Championship” to get its pride back. The much-awaited ICC World Test Championship 2019–21 started on 1 August 2019 with the Ashes 2019. By this league, the longest format of the game has also got a global tournament, like the ODI World cup and the T20 World Cup. The tournament is expected to increase the craze and excitement of Test cricket among the fans. Who will play and how does test championship work? The top nine teams in the ICC Test rankings declared on March 31, 2018 will participate in the competition. The tournament system is League and Final. It will cover 71 Test matches across 27 series and the final at the end. It will be played over a two-year cycle. The teams are England, Australia, India, South Africa, West Indies. New Zealand, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Each of the teams will play a Test series against six of the other eight teams. And each of the teams will play three home series and three away series. At the end of the tournament, according to the point table the top two teams will clash in the final at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground in June 2021. The matches in a series can vary from a minimum two matches to a maximum five match’s series. At the same time, the number of matches played by the nine test teams will not be the same. Here’s the number of matches that each team will play: England: 22, Australia: 19, India: 18, South Africa: 16, Windies: 15, New Zealand: 14, Bangladesh: 14, Pakistan: 13 and Sri Lanka: 13 The Test Championship Points system: There are 120 points for every series. Match point is decided by the number of matches in a series. If it is a 2-match Test series, match point is 60, and if it is a 5-match series match point is 24. For a tie will be distributed half the points for a win, while a draw will be allocated one-third of the points for a win. What if the final match ends in a draw or is tied? In case of a draw or a tie in the final, two teams playing the final will be declared as joint champions of the ICC World Test championship. What’s new in test world cup 2019? The traditional white jersey is adopting squad numbers and player names. DRS will be mandatory for all matches. Teams will be able to replace players who suffer concussions on the field and it will be a like-for-like replacement. But once replaced, the concussed player may take no further part in the game. For slow over rates, this time, the whole team will be charged a percentage of their match fees instead of the captain alone. There is no fear of suspension of captain for slow over rate, but it will now affect the overall points in the Test Championship. If there is a point table level, teams with more series wins will take the higher position in the table. If they are still level, runs per wicket ratio that is the runs scored per wicket lost divided by the runs conceded per wicket taken, will be considered. That’s all till now. Thank you.
