@The Heist - a USC Film by the US Navy Students 1987
Plot - A getaway driver has to meet his 2 accomplices in front of the bank they are robbing...but a crank lady gets in his way. Disclaimer-no usc equipment was used; this was an all volunteer project and the equipment and film were provided by Dick Barlow. This was a synch sound 16mm film we made for the Navy class at the University of Southern California - School of Cinema-Television back in the fall of 1987. Dick Barlow at Burbank Studios was our supervisor for an internship we had at the movie studio where he was the head of the camera department. He has been in the Navy so was looking out for us. He arranged it so we could "borrow" film equipment from Panavision; we got to use the lens Steven Spielberg had on hold. Normally the film students would not have used sound, but because of Barlow we were able to make our movie with sound. He got our film processed too. * each year, ending with our class of 1987-1988, the US Navy sent 1 journalist and a few photographer's mates to the USC film school for a one year Motion Picture - Television Production program / screenwriting program. I wrote the script, but the foul language was put in by others. The cast: Taxi driver: Barry Doe ( a real piece of business; after we started filming and it was too late he turned into a DIVA and wanted to be chauffered to and from home and the set). Grouch: Pat Carlin (what a trooper; all of us used her in our film projects; she was great) Duke (the bank robber lead): Charles Gavoin. Erie (goofie bank robber): Phil Jerris Policeman: Lawrence McNeal III Music score: Paul Francis Witt. Crew: Howard "Grady" Jones, Larry Spurgeon, Ken O'Connel and me. Production assistants: Julia Davies and Ann O'Connel (Ken's wife). Our faculty advisor while at USC was Herb Farmer. I don't recall who the instructor was.
