beebebarton's video: Navy News This Week Pacific Exericise PacEx 1989 Show Closer

@Navy News This Week Pacific Exericise PacEx 1989 Show Closer
This was a show closer piece for Navy News This Week. It is a compilation of some of the video shot during Sept-Oct during PacEx '89 while a member of the Navy's first-ever BDAT team (Battle Damage Assistance Team). I has a dual job of documenting footage for the BDAT team as well as solo reporting stories in the field for NNTW. The first sequence shows the USS Fanning (FF-1076) being refueled by the USS Kansas City (AOR-3). The Carrier is probably the USS Constellation (CV-64). The shot of the people wearing the orange suits entering the back of the COD plane is of the BDAT team. They are also the people in the Zodiak small boat. I saw the dolphins in front of the bow of the Fallon and wasn't sure there were any in front of the Kansas City's bow (ship we were on); so went to bow and leaned forward as best I could and hung the videocamera over the bow and tipped it to look down and yes there were dolphins playing there too. The E33 ship might be the Auxiliary Ammunition Ship E 33 Shasta. Producer/reporter/editor/videographer Cathy Hines. Navy Broadcasting Service Fleet Support Detachment Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
