In this video, the reactivity of silanes is demonstrated. Methane (CH4), whose C atom is well shielded from oxidation by the four hydrogen atoms, needs high temperatures to burn. Unlike that, monosilane, whose central Si atom is much bigger than C, already burns at room temperature because the oxygen molecules can "attack" much easier than in methane.
