The Yamaha XT500 won the 1979 and 1980 Paris - Dakar Rally. In 1981 they ended 2nd and 3rd behind the BMW 800. During the 1981 edition Jacky Ickx (F1, 24hr Le Mans and Can AM pilot) together with French actor Claude Brasseur drove a Citroen CX. In 1983 they won the Dakar Rally in a Mercedes-Benz 280 G Wagen. In 1986 they ended 2nd with a Porsche 959. In 1989 he became 2nd with Peugeot. In total he participated 14 times with cars as diverse as Citroen, Mercedes, Porsche, Lada, Toyota and Mitsubishi. Stéphane Peterhansel has won the most Dakars till now, a grand total of 13 times as well on motorbikes (6 times) as cars (7 times). In the truck categorie the domination of the Russian Kamaz trucks is nothing but impressive. They won it 17 times!
