It is the directorial debut feature film of Taiwanese musician Jay Chou, who also stars as the male lead & co-wrote the film. In the film, the time travel theme titled “Secret” will transport the pianist 20 years forward/backward in time when played on the oldest piano in the piano room. This theme can be found in the soundtrack album for the film which was produced by Jay Chou & released on 13 Aug 2007 by JVR Music & Sony Music Taiwan. Jay Chou (Chinese: 周杰伦, born 18 Jan 1979) is a Taiwanese singer, songwriter, record producer, actor & television personality. Dubbed the "King of Mandopop" & having sold over 30 million records, he is one of the best-selling artists in the Greater China area & is known for his work with lyricist Vincent Fang, with whom he has frequently collaborated on his music. This is my interpretation of the song, influenced by what I have read online. Jay Chou is a genius for composing this song! 0:06 Baroque Period:- I opted for no pedal here since baroque style music aims for clarity. Moreover the pedals did not exist back then. There is presence of ornaments (upper mordent) & a contrapuntal texture. 0:35 Classical Period:- I started pedaling here though the pedal should be used only sparingly for classical style music. There is use of scalic & arpeggio like patterns in the melody & alberti bass in the accompaniment. 0:46 Romantic Peiod:- Well, the romantic period is often dubbed the era of the sustaining pedal. Rich harmony is evident here, as with widespread chromaticism & extensive use of the keyboard.
