He was known for his energetic & athletic dancing style, his good looks & the likable characters that he played on screen. He starred in, choreographed & co-directed with Stanley Donen some of the most well-regarded musical films of the 1940s & 1950s. "Singin' in the Rain" is a song with lyrics by Arthur Freed & music by Nacio Herb Brown. Introduced by Doris Eaton Travis in The Hollywood Music Box Revue, then months later by Cliff Edwards & the Brox Sisters in The Hollywood Revue of 1929, the song was subsequently recorded by many contemporary artists. The musical film of the same name, Singin' in the Rain (1952), was "suggested by" the song.
