Chimney braces are relatively cheap and can prevent a disaster. This chimney fell down on a windy day because it didn’t have safety screws. It’s a good thing it didn’t fall on top of that BMW down below. We were able to reinstall it, and now Roland puts new braces on the chimney to bring it up to code. Chimneys over five feet must have braces. Be careful about mesh on the cap. If it is not installed properly or has too small a weave, it will plug the cap with the first fire and then all sorts of dangers can arise. We also replaced the rain cap here, because the old one wasn't installed properly, and had mesh on it that was too tight.
