This is the sound of close and frequent hits of lightning during the late-night of May 31, 1985 in SE New York State (Islip, Long Island). This was the same weather system that caused the infamous "Tri-State Tornado Outbreak" earlier that same day. As the line of severe thunderstorms finally passed through my area, I was there to record this audio of the electrically-active thunderstorms. Note that despite the low audio fidelity, you can still hear the "crackling" sound of some of the louder lightning hits.
