cedarcam's video: Great Central Railway 50 Years of Preservation

Built by the Great Central Railway this line was part of an ambitious idea to run trains through to the continent. In 1969 it was closed but already there were plans by a small group to preserve a section of the line and run their steam locomotive. In 1973 their dream came true as the first train using a Norwegian locomotive and single coach began working over two miles of track. Today the line has been partially restored to double track main line, the only line in preservation to have that. To mark 50 years of preservation there was a weekend of intensive operation using both steam and diesel traction hauling both passenger and goods trains. There was a lot more to see than I had time for but my main aim of seeing the 50 wagon goods train and a ride on Iris a single car DMU were fitted in.
