This product review is for a new Athearn Genesis GP18. This is a new product release (May 2021) and is a new model for Athearn. The GP18 was built on the very successful GP9 models EMD produced. The "18" designation was for the horsepower rating of the locomotive (1800 hp) from the 567D1 prime mover. A total of 3 of these locomotives were purchased, all factory equipped with a Tsunami 2 DCC/Sound decoder.
