Yves Ramette was born in 1921 in Bavay, France, where his father was the Director of a Professional Graduate School. From a very young age Ramette was attracted towards music. When he was seven years old he started learning musical notation as well as playing the violin and the piano. At age fourteen, while pursuing his secondary studies at the Lycée de Beauvais, he also learnt Harmony lessons. In Beauvais, he also studied the violin with Robert Duforestel. Then he joined the Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris to study Harmony with Jacques de la Presle, Counterpoint and Fugue with Simone Plé-Caussade, the piano with Lélia Gousseau and Lazare Lévy. He also studied conducting and orchestration with Eugène Bigot. In parallel, he studied the Organ with George Jacob, the Composition with Arthur Honegger at the École Normale de Musique de Paris where he awarded First Prize in 1945. From 1947 to 1953 he taught the organ and Counterpoint at the Schola Cantorum in Paris. In 1952, he was appointed as the "Maître de Chapelle" and organ player at the St Ferdinand de Ternes church in Paris. He created and directed the mixed choir "Voix Ardens" to promote the traditional, classical, romantic and modern choral music. This choir gave many concerts from 1968 to 1987. During his later years, Ramette mainly composed works for the organ and the piano, his favorite instruments. In 1997 he published a memory book “Grandeur et Décadence d’une tribune” (Editions Odilon Media/Editiond du Sel). His output includes six symphonies, several chamber musics, choral and vocal works and many organ and piano pieces. Yves Ramette died in June 2012, aged 91. À 14 ans, de pair avec ses études secondaires au Lycée de Beauvais, il approfondit ses connaissances en harmonie. A Beauvais, il étudie aussi le violon avec Robert Duforestel. Il entre ensuite au Conservatoire National de Musique de Paris où il étudie l’Harmonie avec Jacques de la Presle, le Contrepoint et la Fugue avec Simone Plé-Caussade, le piano avec Lélia Gousseau et Lazare Lévy. Il étudie aussi la direction d’orchestre et l’orchestration avec Eugène Bigot. En parallèle, il étudie l’orgue avec George Jacob, la composition avec Arthur Honegger à l’École Normale de Musique de Paris où il obtient un premier prix en 1945. De 1947 à 1953 il assure la direction des cours de Contrepoint ainsi que les classes d’orgue et d’Harmonie à la Schola Cantorum de Paris. A partir de 1990, Yves Ramette se consacre à la composition musicale pour l’orgue et le piano, ses instruments favoris. En 1997 il publie un livre de souvenirs « Grandeur et Décadence d’une tribune » (Editions Odilon Média). Son œuvre comprend six symphonies, plusieurs musiques de chambre, des œuvres chorales et vocales ainsi que de nombreuses pièces pour orgue et pour piano. Yves Ramette décède en juin 2012, à l’âge de 91 ans.
