*Restoring this video after deleting last week in a botched attempt at monetization, since this video is tagged with "copyright".... If you happened to purchase a budget kids VHS tape in the late 80's released, especially at grocery stores and discount shops, at a weird low price, with "Just For Kids" stamped on the cover, chances are, you probably encountered this kid at the start of the tape. Your mom would take you to the dollar store (or maybe Big Lots) and let you pick out a fresh new video tape to bring home! They were usually $1-$5, WAY cheaper than the usual home videos at the time, so it was always easy to get your mom to buy a few... "Wow look mom, cartoons on vhs for a low price! Seabert, Filmation's Ghostbusters, Asterix, Maxine's World, Kissyfur, Punky Brewster: The Animated Series, COPS, Noozles, Beverly Hills Teens, and oh so many more!!! I don't like any of these titles, but the price is so low!! Can we have a few!? THANK YOU MOM, YOU ARE THE BEST!!!" You'd pick the best of the bunch (which was always hard since they all sucked) get home, pop it in, and pow! Suddenly, your mood plummets as you see an annoyingly snide kid from the getgo, just MOMENTS after pressing play.... Instead of low budget cartoon fun, you see "Noel" mugging for the camera & telling you to "enjoy the show".. His name is Noel Bloom Jr.. He was featured in wrap-around segments that were shown at the start of any "Just For Kids" tape, as well as promo videos for upcoming releases! Sometimes he'd give kids advice on how to adjust the tracking on the vcr (which made no difference with the "Just For Kids" tapes which were ALWAYS hideous quality.... They were all dubbed onto low quality tapes at EP speed, making tracking worthless. I remember buying a "Rude Dog" tape new that was barely watchable) and flash his braces with a smug smile, brag about his girlfriends, and basically annoy anyone who happened to be viewing the tape. He'd even give kids a chance to score a free video (which was usually a crummy "Seabert" tape or a crappy "Bozo The Clown" cartoon zzzz).. Face it, the kid was smug, arrogant, and seemingly full of himself. I always wondered "Who the hell is this kid, and who thought he was charismatic enough to be so prominently featured on these tapes?" Well, seeing as how "Noel Bloom Sr" was the founder of the company ("Celebrity Home Entertainment, Inc. Movies" to be precise, who released videos as "Celebrity Video," as well as the "Just For Kids" imprint.. they went bankrupt in 1991 & folded completely in 97) mystery solved.. "Hey son, wanna be a star?" "Oh yes, papa! That would make all my dreams come true!" "Well son, let's bop over to the studio and knock out a few intros! How does that sound Junior?!" "Oh gee papa, sounds swell!! And now the girls will just love me even more than before!!! I'M-A GONNA BE A STAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!" And Noel was quite the sage; "Maxie's World" is rad for girls, and not bad for guys!" Yeah sure, Noel. You know why you like "Maxie's World" hubba hubba vavavoom... "Hey, it has boys in it, and good stories" pfftt... Yeah punk, I tried the same routine about "Rainbow Brite" when I was a tot, and guess what?! It WORKED because it had Red Butler, Buddy Blue, Twink, Starlight, Murkey & Lurkey.... And with your little "Maxie's World".. How many male characters did THAT have?! Let's see... Uhh... Rob okay..... Ferdie? That teacher I guess, and uhh.. Mushroom? Gotcha Noel ya little slimey perv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw this kid alot growing up. Mostly remember him from asking my mom for "Rude Dog" and "Kissyfur" tapes.. Won't cop to having "Foofur" (which I did, cough)... Of course the company which produced these fine "Just For Kids" selections vanished, but woah-ka-kola, there's a Wikipedia page devoted to it!!!!
