BodyCloner: Real-time 3D Person Scanning with a Portable and Low-cost Scan Arm Robert Maier & Daniel Cremers Computer Vision Group Technical University of Munich We proudly present our portable and fully automatic 3D body scanner for generating accurate full-body 3D models of persons. The platform has already been successfully demonstrated at numerous high-profile events at TU Munich and has received increased media attention after scanning the president of TU Munich, Wolfgang A. Herrmann, within the TUM 150 years festivities. The setup consists of a robot arm with four RGB-D sensors that performs a full 360 degree loop around the person. In contrast to expensive camera domes with up to 100 cameras, our setup is significantly more cost efficient with comparable reconstruction quality. The 3D models are generated in real-time and post-processed to ensure 3D printability and to reduce 3D printing costs. In addition to 3D printing, potential future applications include 3D model acquisition for AR/VR, medical applications as well as 3D data generation for deep learning.
