Here is another favorite picker/singer of mine doing an incredible cover of a great classic. There is so much to be said about this particular song by Bob Dylan. For starters, please listen intently to Sam's introduction of the song and what it means to him. He speaks of how it decimated him when he first heard it, and with good reason. To me, it is a story of despair, insensitivity, inequity, inequality, selfishness and so much that describes what's wrong with society and the world in general. He also offers up a truth/solution that never changes...nor should it - Let your light shine, liberate others and speak the TRUTH...that is how we will get to the truth, be able to address it and, hopefully, eventually bring about big changes, good changes and a much better world and a kind of humanity which lives up to it's very definition. The sad part is that if he spoke the same words and sang the same song today, it would be every bit as relevant as when he did this 22 years ago. The REALLY sad part is you can say the very same thing about when Bob Dylan first sang it way back in 1962 ! The good/optimistic part is that it IS something we can do and change - both as individuals and as a society. My hope and prayer is that when this song is sung hundreds of years from now ( and I have no doubt it will be ) that it will be more instructional, informative and a sort of ancestral warning of a time we don't ever want to return to, A time long before we evolved to the best of what we can and should be...... NEVER give in to the forces that foment the opposite ! This one, in particular, is truly shared with Love and Hope....... Please forgive the shakiness of the video as this was, quite unexpectedly, the very first set of music we ( my friend AJ and I ) taped. When we realized "Hey, this is fun and let's do more", we ran to Walmart and bought a tripod for the rest of DaFest...and that is how it all began.
