A:To be honest,I do not know much about him,but according to my CHACHA JI(uncle),who is now in his full-blown old age and from whom I inherited this folk-passion,describes him as"one of the most popular singer of his time"(Peak of popularity, perhaps between 1965 and 1975). Q: His contemporaries? A:Malku,Ahmed Khan Malang,Hussain Bakhsh Dahdi etc... Q: What happened to him afterwards? A:His popularity,along with his contemporaries,slowed down as other singers like,Talib Dard,Basheera,Mansoor Malangi,Allah Ditta Loonaywala etc started emerging to their peak.When I commenced listening folk-music around 1980(during boyhood),he was almost non-existed music-wise,atleast to my generation,even though he had been mentioned many time in the gathering of my elders.To my curiosity,finally I had a chance listening him couple of years back.Thanks to the gift,given to me by one of my elder. Q: How popular he was? A:He was popular in such a way that nowadays legendary singer Talib Hussain Dard sought to become one of his student.Ustad Talib Dard acknowledged in his live interview of 15 july 2009 on Youtube with Shamsi Bhai(FUKRAZ) to be his student and learnt the basics from him. Q: What is the meaning of Dhokri? A: Dhokri is the village in dist.Khushab,close to Warchha,one of the biggest salt-mine in Pakistan. Q: Where is he now? A: well,the man was living in obscurity,totally in oblivion-state for last 30 or 40 years.Thanks to my good friend Mazhar Iqbal Awan(MAZHARSHELL) who few days ago, provided me some details about him.According to him Ustad Nazar Hussain Dhokri had quited Dhokri quite a long time ago and settled down in Jhal Chakian dist.Sargodha.He passed away about 5 years ago.
