Lonely Planet, the world's most influential travel guidebook, named Guizhou province as one of the top 10 regions to visit in 2020. Guizhou is the only place in China to make the list; as a top tourist destination in Guizhou Danzhai was highlighted in Lonely Planet’s recommendation and was included in Lonely Planet’s itinerary. Lonely Planet describes a visit to Guizhou offers things sometimes difficult to find in other parts of China: genuinely old villages, unspoilt mountains and a chance to understand a number of China’s recognised minority cultures, including the Miao and the Dong people. As a national treasure, ancient paper-making craft is still alive in Danzhai and traditional papers produced here are used to restore ancient books stored in China’s National Library. Locals in Danzhai still wear handmade clothes using Miao batik art; the blue and white are signature colors of the region. Danzhai also offers 800-year old Gaoyao terraces, one of the top 10 terraces in China. The mountains of Danzhai are covered with high altitude tea gardens, rice paddies and forests with waterfalls gushing down from the peaks.
