1 October 2020 -- Ahoy! David Perry speaks with Bernadette Grosjean, since March 2020 one of the many volunteer psychiatrists taking calls at the Physician Support Line, an anonymous phone helpline (1-888-409-0141) created with the mission of supporting physicians, residents and medical students confronted with the COVID-19 pandemic. Grosjean is a native of Belgium, where she received her M.D., and her first Psychiatric training (1992). After a visiting fellowship at Cornell in 1997 with Professor Otto Kernberg, she made the decision to re-train in psychiatry in the United States (2001-2005). From 2005 until 2016, she worked as clinical faculty at Harbor UCLA in Los Angeles where for six years she worked in a field-based psychiatric outreach program in Los Angeles. Working with high-risk individuals was a life-changing experience, and made her a determined advocate for a more humanistic and collaborative psychiatry where time, partnership with the patient/client, and a flexible approach to integrating psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. She continues to work part time with a nonprofit in Los Angeles (Special Service for Group.)
