Satul Pelinei a fost menționat documentar în anul 1708. Conform documentelor de arhivă, primul proprietar al pămîntului din valea rîului Cahul era Luca Toma care a vîndut o parte a moșiei lui Matei Cantacuzino. Prima școală cu o singură clasă și-a deschis ușile în 1879. Structura etnică a populaţiei în cadrul satului: 97.02% - moldoveni, 1.31% - ucraineni, 0.54% - ruşi, 0.45% - găgăuzi, 0.54% - bulgari, 0.14% - alte etnii.
