This hike is strenuous 11.2 miles round trip with 3,400' of gain overall and begins above D&F pack station in Huntington Lake. Kaiser Peak is about 10,300' and is a walk-up with a 360 degree view. The view east is of much of the central Sierra Nevada but includes Huntington Lake, several small lakes below Kaiser Peak, Mammoth Pool Reservoir, Edison Lake, Mt. Ritter and Banner to the North, Mt. Goddard to the South, the Mono Divide and many more hiking destinations best accessed from the Eastern Sierra. This time of year there is no access to water so you will need to pack about 3 liters of water for the hike which will take a minimum of 5 hours round trip. At age 77, I took 9 hours yesterday. During the week, there is little traffic on the trail. The first stopping point outbound is at 2.25 miles (about 8,400') at the Huntington Lake overlook. the next stop is College Rock (about 9,000') Where the Sierra Begins to pop up.There are about 3 false summits so be patient! I used a Sony A7C and a Sony 85mm 1.8 lens.
