depper's video: Sail On Rare Pre-realease Jam - Leslie West of Mountain Joins Paul Rodgers of Bad Company

Unknown to most fans of Bad Company and Mountain ... a STUDIO CLASSIC!! In late 1971, there was a session at Basing Street Studios in London with Leslie West, Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke and Overend Watts, they did an early version of the Rodgers-written "Sail On" which would later appear on their early 1972 reunion album "Free At Last". Mountain was on the verge of breaking up at that point and Leslie & Corky Laing were trying to get PR into their new band. Free had broken up in May 1971 and Rodgers' new group Peace hadn't really taken off the ground so that sure was an opportunity. As we all know, later, in early 1972, Leslie & Corky make rock history with Jack Bruce. Sound has been digitally enhanced which really brought out Paul's vocals and Leslie's souring guitar riffs! Leslie's classic Les Paul Jr Tone and vibrato is on display here folks! :) BTW, Rodgers and his band Peace had just supported Mott The Hoople on a Scandinavian tour in autumn 1971 so that may be why the two Motts took part in that session.
