One of the most common sins throughout the entire world is sexual immorality. This has been something that the devil has been tempting people of various ages and backgrounds with and successfully bringing pain and reproach, as well as spiritual death upon them. Even King David experienced sexual temptation and yielded to this deadly sin (2 Sam. 11:2-5). But David wasn't the only one tempted with sexual immorality in the Bible! We read of how Joseph was victorious over this. (Gen. 39:6-20) "Do you not realise that people who do evil will never inherit the kingdom of God? Make no mistake-the sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, the self-indulgent, sodomites, thieves, misers, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers, none of these will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9 "Keep away from sexual immorality. All other sins that people may commit are done outside the body; but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Do you not realise that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you and whom you received from God? You are not your own property, then; you have been bought at a price. So use your body for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 "You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery. But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye should be your downfall, tear it out and throw it away; for it will do you less harm to lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell. And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut if off and throw it away; for it will do you less harm to lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hell." Matthew 5:27-30 "Blessed are the pure in heart: they shall see God." Matthew 5:8 "Shun lewd conduct. Every other sin a man commits is outside his body, but the fornicator sins against his own body." 1 Corinthians 6:18 "Can you not realize that the unholy will not fall heir to the kingdom of God? Proverbs 6:25 "Whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." Hebrews 13:4 Steps to Overcome Sexual Sins 1. Resist before giving into the temptation (1 Pet. 5:8-10). 2. Escape the temptation (1 Cor. 10:13). 3. Endure the temptation (Rom. 6:11-13, 19). 4. Set the mind on the Spirit (Rom. 8:5-6). 5. Live by the Spirit (Gal. 5:16-17).
