Studio 31 Media Archive's video: KEVN Good Morning Black Hills Full 1 20 2021

@KEVN Good Morning Black Hills (Full), 1/20/2021
Here's a complete look at the 7am "feature magazine" that airs on KEVN, the Fox affiliate serving Rapid City and the Black Hills of western South Dakota. Good Morning Black Hills debuted Monday, January 6, 2020 and airs for an hour weekday mornings. It concentrates more on lighter news, lifestyle features and community events along with a couple of weather checks. There is a brief news summary of harder items about half an hour in, but other than that this is a mostly lighter show. Even though KEVN has its own shows and talent weeknights, it's interesting that the "KOTA Territory News" brand is mentioned in the open even though KEVN has its own branding. Gray purchased KEVN in 2014 and ran it pretty much status quo until their 2015 purchase of Schurz brought local ABC affiliate KOTA into the fold. Gray then did some complicated channel shuffling that sent KOTA to KEVN's channel 7 license, KEVN to a new low power signal, and the former KOTA (with a garbage low VHF signal) went to a separate company who now runs it as KHME, a standalone MeTV affiliate for the market. Viewers would not have noticed a change due to the virtual channels remaining the same. The combined operation is based at the longtime KEVN studios on Skyline Drive, although Gray added on a large addition to accomodate KOTA when it took over. The two stations have separate anchors (except in the morning) but share a set. This is possible because the two stations do not compete against each other in any timeslot. The station brought 615 Music's "Seize The Day" back from the dead for the morning show only. For a theme composed in 2002 it has aged much better than what KEVN uses for its main theme (as well as bumpers and the close on the morning show), the 2006 Fox Affiliate News Theme from OSI Music. I have no clue who the voiceover is. Anchored by Sunday Miller and meteorologist Eric Gardner (longtime KOTA morning met). Longtime KEVN personality Jack Caudill hosts the "Fox Files" segment. Includes reports from Nick Nelson, Alicia Garcia (re-voicing a syndicated "Consumer Reports" PKG), Greg Ross (CBC News Canada), Mandy Gaither (CNN Newsource), Blake Joseph, Abbie Petersen (KOLN), David Daniel (CNN), and Alan Shope (KMBC). Includes the syndicated "Mr. Food's Test Kitchen" segment hosted by Chief Food Officer Howard Rosenthal. Commercials are edited out, station promos have been retained. Due to copyright restrictions, movie clips during Daniel's segment have been blacked out/muted. ©2021 Gray Media Group and KEVN-TV no copyright infringement intended.
